Again, which conference? The All Chokers Conference. All but 2 or 3 of the SEC would be ACC champoins 8 out of 10 years.

I'm not sure why you UT fans are jumping on VT fans? With Florida,Georgia,South Carolina & Alabama on the rise and defection of the coaching staff + a contract extension for Fulmer UT will be luckey if they crack the top three of the SEC east. I look at it this way Beamer is not that good of a coach but he does well for the talent he gets at VT compared to Fulmer who has a top ten class every year.

Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies

I don't understand the pure hatred. So it is the fault of VT when they leave what everybody calls a weak conference (Big East), and goes to the ACC, and several of the great teams fall apart.

Just looking at the last couple years, at the end of 2006, the SEC had 5 teams ranked, ACC 3. At the end of 2006, it was 5 teams ranked by each. At the end of 2004, the ACC had 5 teams, SEC had 4 teams ranked. At the end of 2003, the SEC had 5 teams, the ACC had 4. And at the end of 2002, the ACC had 6 teams ranked, the SEC 3 teams

(NOTE--this is teams currently in the conferences, not who was there then)

While I'll agree that the top SEC teams tend to be very much near the top and week in/week out, its a tougher league, to pretend that teams like VA, GC, NC, Miami, BC, Wake, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland and North Carolina State (I'll leave Duke out), aren't at worst decent programs, at least they have the capability to be, and most have been ranked at various points during the last few years.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

Now Rock, don't confuse them with facts....You know the SEC beat the dickens out of every ACC team they played this season.

i didnt realize it was that low.......but i knew it wasnt pretty

for the life of me i cant understand why so many people think hes a great coach when the truth is he struggles mightily in big games

all that "beamerball" nonsense is great if it translates to wins in big games.......but blocking 2 kicks in a game against the st marys school for the blind......doesnt mean a damn thing </div></div>

Why do people think he's a good coach? Oh, I don't know...maybe it's because he took over a program that:

1) had virtually no football tradition
2) was on probation
3) was never on TV
4) is in a location difficult to recruit top talent to

and..

1) took it to 15 straight bowl games
2) enabled it to expand its stadium by 15,000
3) has it on TV for 75% of their games
4) enabled it to use its football success to expand and improve its overall athletic program

No, Beamer doesn't coach in the almighty SEC and his game decisions are questionable, but to say he's not a good coach is a joke.

Someone else in the thread questioned the hatred the UT fans on this board have for VT. I can answer that for you...it's because most of them live in an area where they are outnumbered by VT fans.

If these people lived in West Virginia, they'd hear about WVU all the time and hate WVU. If they lived in Texas, they'd hate Texas and A&M. Hell, if they lived in Oregon, they'd hate Oregon.

I've got news for the VT haters...VT and its fans are no different than any other in college football.

I keep hearing "VT is the most overrated team in college football" etc etc. Guess what? Any team in any BCS conference that had a similar record to VT's would be ranked similarly every year.

I would be surprised if VT fans outnumber UT fans in the area. Heck, pre 95 or so, very few around here could tell you who VT was for the most part, or VPI for that matter.

Stripes is right, there is no way VT fans outnumber UT fans in this neck of the woods. You have a bunch who have jumped on the bandwagon since they found out they had a program.

One thing I don't like in particular about VT is they way students/kids from our area act when they come back from Tech. They act like they have lived in NOVA all their life and for some odd reason come back with attitudes, and most of those are only after 1 semester, imagine how bad it gets when they have stayed for 4 years. I know this isn't the case for all but 80% act this way. I know many of people who feel this way.

I will add that it is mainly girls and not the guys. The guys I graduated with that went up there didn't change a bit but the girls on the other hand did a complete 360.

That's not something that's unique to Tech; I've seen it happen with kids who to go Radford, JMU, UVa, etc and I'm sure it happens with kids who live in small towns and go off to UK or UT. Lots of people go "away" to school and come back with attitudes.

I hate both schools equally, but if you think VT fans outnumber UT fans anwhere around here, you are absolutely crazy....

I still find it hard to believe when I am at a party in Scott County with 40 scott countians, me being the only one from TN, and I'm the only one who hates TN...
